I remember when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. It was pure devastation. I have sat here for the last 2 days and watched Hurricane Gustav in the same manner. I am constantly monitoring the track (yes I’m dorky like that). I have been watching the evacuations on the Dot Cams. I’m am honestly happy of the way the government is handling it this time. Everyone along the coast has had plenty of time to evacuate. I read somewhere where Mayor Nagin of New Orleans said that if they stay, they are on their own. I agree. People have had ample time to get their stuff and get out.
I do feel for the folks of New Orleans. If this is a direct hit again, will the city ever be the same? Will there be a city left if the levees fail again? Most still haven’t rebuilt from Katrina. I do hope that the folks of the coastal regions heed the warnings to leave and get the hell out of dodge.
I have made a deal with the little devils children of mine. They have never attended a homecoming game. So I decided this year I would bribe them with the game for good behavior. Maybe it will work. If not, I get to save a shit load of money by staying home.
Shorty is so excited. Tomorrow is the first college football game of the season. My girl is a die hard Alabama fan. She gets it from her parents. As a matter of fact, she will not say the word Auburn, because I taught her from a young age that it was an ugly word. LOL. She will say that other team or the blue team, but never will she speak the word Auburn. That’s my girl.
As I dropped her off at school this morning, she broke into a collegiate discussion with one of the teachers. I tell ya, that girl will be a female sports caster one day. She’s already begged me to sign her up on the football team. Last year at the homecoming bon fire, she disappears. Wanna know where I found her? In the middle of the bigger boys (middle school and up) trying to play with them.
So come every Saturday I will be MIA. That is the time that we all gather around the boob tube and scream at the TV. We will cheer our team on to victory, then bitch if they mess up. I have a feeling though this is our year. I mean it has to be they do have a couple million riding on it.
I think I have started to bore my readers. I apologize if I do. But to be honest, I don’t lead a very exciting life. Sure I could write about my rebellious children. As a matter of fact one threatened to call the law on me last night because I removed her from the kitchen table for smarting off. Yeah, she nonchalantly yelled from her bedroom she was going to call them and tell them I was starving her. Uh huh, this coming from a 125 pound 12 year old. I did allow her to come back to the table to eat after she apologized for popping off.
Or I could tell you about the 13 year old that thinks she knows everything. Of course at this age, they all do. She goes around barking orders to her younger sisters. She tries to mother them, but of course, they don’t listen, thus ensues all hell breaking loose through out the house. Nothing makes the day like a bunch of kids bitching and griping all day.
The ever so spoiled rotten 7 year old is enough to drive anyone crazy. The other day she was instructed to clean up her side of the room (she just started sharing a room with Wild child). She lays in the floor crying that she doesn’t know how to clean up her room. Umm sure she does because I have never cleaned her room. That has always been her responsibility.
My life isn’t really different from many other mothers out there. I think that is why we flock to the internet is to find some glimmer of hope that we are not alone in the process of raising out children. We all have our days where our children push us to the limits. I know mine does. There are days where I just want to throw my hands up and quit. But parenting has a no quit policy.
My mother quit on us. I vowed to never quit on my children. Even though there are days I do want to lease them out for a few days.

Today I plan on cleaning. UGH. I hate cleaning. No I take that back. I don’t mind cleaning, I just hate have to do deep down, nitty gritty cleaning. That’s better. Since hubby is on limited activities for 6 weeks, I have taken on a lot around here. He usually does the dusting and runs the vacuum cleaner. I don’t mind vacuuming, but I loathe dusting.
We live in the country. Everything is so dry and the dust piles up pretty fast around here. There’s probably a good inch or so on the tv stands that I use to hold my nick knacks. I know it has to be done. I just don’t wanna be the one that does it. Maybe I can con the kids into doing it for me. Hmmmm there’s an idea and a brilliant one at that.
Jelly Bean to the rescue
Another day, another headache. I swear this sinus problems I am having is going to be the death of me. Well that and my oldest daughter. Why is it that in every family there is at least one kid that would bring home every animal he/she could?
Jelly Bean wants to be a vet when she grows up. I would love to see her ambitions come true. However in the mean time, she scours the classifieds and Craigslist every single day for the animals. I have explained to her that right now, I can not do it. I can’t afford the dog supplies, house breaking one, and all that stuff that comes along with another animal. But she’s is determined to get one.
Don’t get me wrong, I love love love animals. I just do not have the time nor the energy to tend to one right now. She is in school and doesn’t have the time either. I truly feel sorry for her future spouse. I hope he has plenty of room for all the animals she will bring home.
Treasure Hunt Thursday
So I changed the theme again. My friend Holly sent me an email telling me that on her computer monitor the theme I made wasn’t working right. It was only covering half her page. Normally I probably would have tackled it, but tonight I have a headache from hell. I feel like someone has put my head in one of those espresso machines and turned it on high. I honestly feel like I have a sinus infection. Today, I have been having problems with dizzy spells. Once in the drug store and once driving. Not good. I came home from getting the girls and I laid down from 3 until 6. I still feel like crap.
I wanted to remind everyone that tomorrow is Thursday so that means another Treasure Hunt Thursday is coming. I hope to see everyone there.
Cops, filmed on location :)
I am so happy. I got to see some excitement this morning. Yup sure did. We were headed to town to get hubby’s bandages and stuff and while sitting at the stop sign, there was a cop on the other side telling everyone to stay still. I thought it may have been a funeral or an ambulance. Nope, it was a dude running from the law. Now it’s been a very long time since I have seen anything exciting. So I decided to follow along for the ride. The only problem was the jerk decided to go the opposite way of which I was headed. I wanted to follow the 8 or so police cars chasing him. And wouldn’t you believe I had the camera with me and didn’t even think about it until it was over with. Just my luck. I’m sure it will be on the news or in the paper tomorrow. Oh I can’t wait.
After the excitement, we went to Walgreens to get all the bandage stuff. We aren’t real familiar with the Walgreens in town, so we wandered aimlessly around looking for what we needed. We passed the stuff to lose weight. The Halloween candy that is already out. And everything else in between. But we finally found the wound care sections. I must say there are so many things to chose from. I think I got the right stuff but not 100% certain.
Right now, he’s resting comfortably. The Dr’s office called to check on him and while he had them on the phone I inquired about changing his dressings. I was shocked when I pulled the old ones off. There are no staples or stitches. Apparently they just glued him shut. I cleaned it up per instructions and hopefully I put enough tape on there to keep any germs out. That’s the last thing we want is for him to become infected. Well I think I’m going to rest too.. all the excitement of the last few days is catching up with me.
