Why are some people so dishonest? Why do they go to great links to put their name out there supposedly for a good benefit and then lie about it? I’m sure you have read around the net that Ashwin Khanna was hosting a huge contest and the winner would receive $2,500.00 via paypal. All that was required was to copy a linked paragraph and you was entered. (My post is HERE!!) Apparently the buzz around the net was it’s a sham. That Ashwin awarded the winner that only had two entries on their website. And ironically the first entry was the post from Ashwin. Now I’m not a genius nor am I a rocket scientist, but it seems awful fishy doesn’t it? Of course Ashwin (whom will not be receiving a free link from me) is under fire and the question is what it all a sham? Was there even $2,500.00 on the line or was it just a ploy to boost backlinks. Well in my opinion, it’s all for the backlinks. You tell people you’re giving away that much money and of course people are gonna bite. I know I did. I was hoping that I could “win” the money and get some of my bills caught up and take hubby back to the eye specialist. But being that someone is so desperate for links that they lie about a contest, it will never happen.
But what did it cost Ashwin? Well it is costing him links. People who were jolted by the sham are pulling his links and spreading the word. Was it selfish or just plain stupidity? I think it was both. It was selfish to lie to the people about the money. Some of which really need it. And secondly it was stupid to piss off the bloggers. Thanks for the link and also for supporting the cause! I can’t help but wonder…he knew this was going to happen, or should have known. Think there was some other ulterior motive we are overlooking?
Coolio, I honestly do not know or even understand the motives behind this. Bloggers are a tight nit community and to do such a thing puts a bad rep on other honest to goodness bloggers. I hope that everyone that was duped by this will strip the links from their sites.

Well Suzie, there’s just several things that doesn’t add up. The blogger that supposedly won only had 2 post. The first post was dated the day before the contest was to end. I hate to think that people out there actually CON people for links.

Hi.. I did the same thing in the wee hours of the night, took away his links and left a message suggesting that at the site where I found out about this possible scam.
If it wasn’t a scam, then I’d like to see proof on the funds being transfered to someone we can see isn’t Ashwin.
Anyway, good on you for removing his links. I did that about ten hours ago too.

I’m afraid that in our heart of hearts we all knew it could (and probably was) a sham, but we bloggers are an optimistic bunch who hoped against hope he would live up to his bargain… He’ll never work in this town again.

Jason, you are exactly right. Even though we all knew in the back of our minds that this sounded too good to be true, we still held hope. People like that do not deserve the backing of the blog community.
